With the
Nanomorph series, Laowa already has 1.5x anamorphic lenses in its program, and additional anamorphic lenses with a stronger 2X compression factor are now to appear in the spring. The Proteus series also covers a Super 35+ light circle (max. sensor size 25.9mm x 21.6mm). 4:3 or 6:5 sensors produce images with a 2.66:1 or 2.4:1 aspect ratio after rectification.

Laowa Proteus 2X Super35 anamorphic lenses
The four focal lengths of 35mm, 45mm, 60mm, and 85mm all offer T2 speed and the oval bokeh typical of anamorphics. The aperture consists of 10 blades. Whether the color of the light flares is blue, amber or neutral depends on the coating and can be determined at the time of purchase; in neutral, the ambient light determines the look in each case.
The minimum focus distance is 0.55m for the 35mm and 45mm, 0.7m for the 60mm, 0.82m for the 85mm lens. Focus breathing is present, but seems to be slight. The focus travel is a cine-typical 300°. The back focus is supposed to be calibrated without shimming via a special mechanism, even when the optics are attached to a camera.

Back-focus adjustment
Chromatic aberrations are said to be low. The lenses are matched to each other and provide uniform postition of the serrated lens rings. The outer diameter is 114mm, and the filter thread is 105mm. Weight ranges from 2.3 to 2.96 kg.
The Laowa Proteus 2X Super35 anamorphics are offered with a PL mount, and a Canon EF interchangeable mount is included. The lenses are scheduled to begin shipping in May and are priced individually at ,999. Sets of two will be offered for ,499, and a complete set will be available for ,998.
