Laowa had already shown the special macro zooms at NAB, and now they have been officially announced. The two zoom lenses 15-24mm T8 and 15-35mm T12 offer the same form factor as the already available 24mm T8 Pro2be macro lens (www.slashcam.de/news/single/LAOWA-Pro2be---24mm-T8-2X-Makro-Objektive-fuer-unge-18091.html) and thus enable shots from very special perspectives - now with an even more extreme angle of view (max. 110.5°) and more creative options thanks to the possibility of changing the focal length (dolly zoom). The zoom factor is 1.6x or 2.3x.
The new macro zooms also cover a full-frame image circle and are available with various front modules. These deflect the image differently - Direct View (0° / no deflection), 35°, 90° and Periscope are available. The latter is used to film offset, but parallel to the camera.
The front tube, which Laowa says is waterproof, can be rotated 360°, and the front diameter is 32 mm. The closest focusing distance is 5 mm.
The macro zooms each weigh approx. 1.4 kg and measure approx. 540 mm in length. They are equipped with an ARRI PL mount as standard; optional interchangeable mounts are available for Canon EF, Canon RF, Sony E, Nikon Z-Mount and L-Mount.
Price and availability
The complete, freely combinable set consisting of the two Laowa zoom modules 15–24 mm T8 and 15–35 mm T12 as well as all four front modules costs approx. 11,849 euros. Here, the modules can be screwed together as desired. If you only need a single macro zoom, you have to choose one of the zoom modules and one of the front attachments when purchasing; these are then permanently connected to each other. Prices then start at approx. 4,139 euros (depending on the version). Pre-orderable now, delivery is scheduled for the 3rd quarter.
