Leitz HUGO - compact cine lenses based on Leica M 0.8

Leitz is launching another series of cine lenses, called HUGO. The seven fixed focal lengths for full-frame are based on the legendary Leica M 0.8 lenses and feature the same optical design including coatings, offering a "vintage" look. However, they feature a completely new mechanical design. The focus works differently, the rotation angle is 270° and the close-up limits are shorter. The LPL mount can be exchanged for Leica M or Leica L.

The 21, 24, 28, 35, 50, 75 and 90mm lenses all offer a T1.5 speed, and there will even be another 50mm with a T1.0 (Hugo Noctilux). The aperture consists of 11 blades.
Weighing between 0.81 and 1.45 kg, the Hugos are quite light, also the overall lengths are compact with 68mm (21-50mm), 82mm (50mm T1.0) and 112mm (75mm, 90mm), respectively - especially, of course, compared to the other cine series Leitz Prime and Elsie. The front diameter is 95mm throughout, and the position of the lens rings is consistent.
Incidentally, the name Hugo goes back to Hugo Wehrenfenning, who designed the Leica M bayonet, among other things.
According to FDTimes the Leitz Hugo set with seven focal lengths is to cost 107,300 euros, the 50 mm T1.0 another 18,900 euros. They are scheduled to appear in early 2023.
