In the Leitz Cine lens series HUGO, a 40mm focal length, which is frequently requested according to the manufacturer, will be released, ranking between the 35mm and the 50mm. With a T1.5 aperture, a weight of 870g and a length of 6.8cm, the 40mm also exhibits the series-typical characteristics. The minimum focusing distance is 36cm.
The compact Leitz HUGO Cine lenses are designed for full format and are *largely* based on the legendary Leica M 0.8 lenses because in fact there was no 40mm there, for example. They have the same optical design including the coatings and deliver a "vintage"-like look, but have a new mechanical design. Among other things, the focus works differently, the angle of rotation is 270° and the minimum focusing distances are shorter. The front diameter is consistently 95mm, the position of the lens rings is uniform.
The LPL mount can theoretically be exchanged for Leica M or Leica L. However, the HUGO lenses are not compatible with all cameras that have a basically suitable mount (or adapter), as they protrude quite far into the camera due to their design. It is recommended to consult the compatibility list, as the sensor could otherwise be damaged.
The Leitz HUGO 40mm T1.5 is scheduled to be released in the 4th quarter. The HUGO lenses cost approximately 17,800 euros each.
