LumaFusion 5.3 for iOS: now open for third-party plugins

With the new version 5.3, LumaTouch introduces a fundamental technical innovation to its mobile editing app LumaFusion: a proprietary plugin architecture that enables the integration of third-party plugins for editing and VFX tasks for the first time - initially, however, only on iPhones and iPads.

Open Platform for Plugin Developers

The introduction of the new plugin interface is not only significant for LumaFusion users, but also for developers, as it allows manufacturers of video and effects plugins to port their existing macOS Desktop plugins relatively easily to iOS and make them usable via LumaFusion. This opens up a new market for them in the field of mobile content creation, while LumaFusion users gain access to already familiar, highly specialized tools with powerful functions directly within the app.

First Third-Party Plugin: PaintX for LumaFusion

As the first partner, the Australian manufacturer CoreMelt is using the new architecture and is releasing

PaintX for LumaFusion exclusively for iOS. Previously, PaintX was only available for Final Cut Pro. CoreMelt has already provided its "Lock-and-Load" technology for video stabilization in LumaFusion.

PaintX expands the range of functions with a powerful painting and tracking tool that is embedded directly in the LumaFusion timeline.

The most important functions:
- Planar Tracking: Automatic tracking of brushstrokes over moving image content.
- Object Removal: Easy removal of unwanted elements such as power lines or antennas.
- Digital Retouching: Elimination of skin imperfections or the addition of digital make-up.
- Creative Effects: Hand-drawn annotations, color corrections limited to moving objects, targeted deformation or repair of damaged video sections.

The operation is designed for fast workflows: A brushstroke and a push of a button are enough to automatically track the movement.

PaintX is available as an in-app purchase for .99 - the proceeds go entirely to CoreMelt. This model could provide an incentive for other manufacturers to port their plugins to LumaFusion as well, making LumaFusion even more attractive - a good deal for both sides. LumaFusion thus becomes an expandable platform that can more easily approximate desktop solutions in terms of functionality.

New Features in LumaFusion Version 5.3

In addition to the new plugin structure, LumaFusion 5.3 brings further improvements:
- Simultaneous application of transitions to multiple selected clips.
- Summary of the effect categories "Blur", "Style" and "Distortion" for a clearer overview.
- Search function in the effect preset library.
- Adjustable track height in the preferences.
- More flexible preview options for library clips.
- New transition packages for Creator Pass subscribers: Circular Wipes, Mod Lines and Anchor Slides.

LumaFusion for ChromeOS and Android is available in the Google Play Store for a one-time purchase price of .00 - unfortunately still without the plugin interface of the iOS version.
