For the seventh year in a row, audio equipment manufacturer RØDE, together with partners such as Lumix, Nanlite, Zhiyun, Mzed, Musicbed, Rhino, Adobe, Brevite, Pelican and Arri, is organising the world's largest short film competition, "My RØDE Reel". RØDE has even increased the prize money compared to previous years: there is 1 million dollars in cash plus non-cash prizes in the form of film equipment to be won.
To participate in the competition you must submit a short film of maximum 3 minutes and a "behind-the-scenes" clip in which a RØDE product is featured. The theme of the short film can be chosen freely.
In contrast to previous years, the number of competition categories has been greatly reduced: instead of 28 different categories, there are now only 10, five genre categories (drama, comedy, documentary, animation, behind-the-scenes) and five special categories (jury selection, audience selection, sound design, young filmmakers, best Chinese film).
The prize money of 1 million dollars in cash will be awarded to the three best films in each of the 10 categories. For example, the first place in each category in the genre section will receive 75,000 dollars, the second 30,000 dollars, the third 15,000 dollars - with the exception of the Jury Prize, which will award the winner 200,000 dollars. In addition to the cash prize, each winner will receive a variety of film equipment such as (of course) various microphones and more from RØDE itself, as well as other equipment from other manufacturers.
Anyone can participate, no matter if beginner, hobby filmmaker, vlogger, YouTuber or professional. The filmmaker must hold all rights to his or her films, not yet have submitted them to other festivals and be 13 years of age or older. The deadline for submissions is 7 October 2020.
