At the end of the year, Avid has once again released a new version of the Media Composer, which, as usual with every update, brings some new features.
Long awaited is certainly the native support of HEVC/H.265 (High Efficiency Video Coding) clips. These can now be imported without transcoding and decoded during playback in the timeline. At the same time, H.265 media can also be created or exported. However, the latter is not possible with Media Composer | First.
With the new audio mixer, dialogue, sounds and music can be mixed more quickly and easily. The channel strip layout known from some audio programmes can dynamically show or hide its controls depending on the visibility priority, for example, if one changes the size or position of the mixer window. Furthermore, you can copy, paste and move track effects to other slots in the mixer and assign important menu items to the keyboard.
The Titler+ now contains two new modes (Text and Move) that should make it much easier to create text of any kind. In Text mode, it is now possible to click and type anywhere to create a text layer at that location or to edit an existing text layer. If you switch to "Move" mode, you can move the text layer and even change its attributes without having to edit the text itself.
In addition, there are a lot of other small novelties, which are listed in more detail in the linked blog post. This video also gives a good overview for those interested:
The new Media Composer 2020.12 is available now and is available under the usual licence conditions.
