The newly introduced Mitakon 55mm f/2.8 1-5X lens from Zhongyi Optics boasts pronounced macro capabilities. It is designed for full-frame but is also said to cover a medium format image circle without vignetting. The magnification ratio of 1:1 can be extended up to 5x, whereby the lens barrel extends significantly; it lengthens from 87mm to a full 162mm.

As a result, the working distance changes accordingly. In 1x mode, there is 150mm of air between the front lens and the subject, while in the extreme 5x magnification, it is only 65mm. The minimum focusing distance (the distance between the subject and the sensor plane) remains approximately the same at 279mm (1x) and 272mm (5x).
The optical design comprises 13 elements in 8 groups, and chromatic aberrations are said to be minimized. The lens weighs 690g.
The mount options are diverse and include E, RF, EF, Z, F, GFX, X, L, and XCD (it is not communicated for which mount the length specifications apply). The filter diameter is 58mm. An Arca Swiss lens support and an LED ring light, which can be attached to the front of the lens, are included.
The Mitakon 55mm f/2.8 1-5X macro lens costs and is said to be available immediately.
