Power via USB-CThe omission of a built-in energy storage unit reduces both the size and complexity of the lights. Power is supplied directly via an integrated USB-C connector, which allows the light to be connected directly to smartphones, tablets, or power banks as an energy source. This means the lights require no charging times and no additional chargers, which can be a practical advantage in situations like spontaneous outdoor shoots or mobile livestreams. However, if a smartphone is used as the power source, this naturally reduces its runtime. Soft and Hard Light via Dual-Sided Light DesignA special feature of the new Nanlite cookie lights is the dual-sided light design—each side has a different light characteristic. The soft light side uses a diffuser to create an evenly soft light, suitable for portraits or close-ups, for example. The hard light side uses focusing lenses that deliver a more direct and intense light. This two-part layout makes the lights versatile without requiring smartphone filmmakers to carry separate light sources for different looks. ;) Nanlite cookie and cookie-s Use in Dual-Capture Mode of Current SmartphonesModern smartphones increasingly offer dual-capture functions where the front and rear cameras record simultaneously. The cookie models support this workflow by allowing both sides to be activated at the same time. This creates a dual-directional light that illuminates both camera perspectives. ;) Nanlite cookie - Lighting for Dual-Capture Mode Color Accuracy and OperationDespite their extremely compact design, the Nanlite cookie and cookie-s achieve a color accuracy of CRI 95 and TLCI 98. Operation is deliberately kept simple: a short press changes the brightness in three steps, and a long press controls the color temperature—also in three steps (3200K for warm light, 4300K for natural light, and 5600K for daylight). ;) Nanlite cookie and cookie-s - Brightness and Color Temperature Modes Due to their compact size, the new cookie lights naturally do not have very high luminosity (cookie-s in hard light mode: 244 lux at 1 meter distance) and are better suited for close-range shots. Form Factor and WeightWith a length of about 5cm and a weight of 21.4g, the cookie and cookie-s are among the lightest external mini-lights on the market. The two variants only differ in shape: the Nanlite cookie is round, and the Nanlite cookie-s is rectangular.
