Following the[LG UltraFine 32U990A - first 6K monitor with Thunderbolt 5](www.slashcam.de/news/single/LG-UltraFine-32U990A---erster-6K-Monitor-mit-Thund-19573.html) (6K Display), LG is expanding its UltraFine series, aimed at professional users, with the 40U990A-W, a 40-inch monitor featuring 5K2K resolution (5,120 × 2,160) and integrated Thunderbolt 5, making it particularly interesting for Apple users with current Macs. Its Nano-IPS-Black panel with 10-bit color depth combines an ultra-wide 21:9 desktop with an increased contrast ratio of 2,000:1 compared to classic IPS.

The typical brightness of the LG 40U990A-W is 450 nits, and for HDR workflows, the monitor is certified to the VESA DisplayHDR 600 standard. The panel covers 99% of the professional P3 color space. ;) LG UltraFine 40U990A-W Its refresh rate is up to 120 Hz and is variable via AMD&s FreeSync Premium. The 2,500R curvature and matte surface coating aim for less fatiguing work in wide multi-window layouts. Thanks to its virtually borderless design on three sides, it is also suitable for multi-monitor setups. Thunderbolt 5As one of the first monitors, the LG 40U990A-W features two Thunderbolt 5 interfaces (input and output), which, with up to 80 Gbit/s bidirectional or 120 Gbit/s unidirectional bandwidth, are twice as fast as Thunderbolt 4. Apple&s MacBook Pro with M4 Pro/M4 Max and Mac minis with M4 Pro, as well as some high-end gaming notebooks like the Razer Blade 18 or the Clevo X580, feature Thunderbolt 5 ports and can thus fully utilize the capabilities of the LG 40U990A-W. ;) LG UltraFine 40U990A-W Interfaces The Thunderbolt 5 interfaces support 96 W Power Delivery for charging a laptop, as well as daisy-chaining multiple monitors for multi-monitor setups. A host with Thunderbolt 5 or DisplayPort 2.1 is required for 5,120 × 2,160 at 120 Hz; otherwise, limitations in refresh rate or color resolution are to be expected. Further interfaces available include two HDMI 2.1 inputs and one DisplayPort 2.1 input. The integrated USB hub offers one USB-C upstream port, four USB-C (3.2) and two USB-A downstream ports (3.2), plus an RJ-45 connection. ;) LG UltraFine 40U990A-W The 40U990A-W is delivered factory color-calibrated and supports hardware calibration via the LG Calibration Studio software. Additional features include Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture. The stand offers comprehensive ergonomic adjustment options: it is height-adjustable (130 mm), tiltable, swiveling (±20°), and supports the pivot function. VESA mounting (100 x 100 mm) is also possible. Eye-friendly features such as Flicker Safe, a Reader Mode, and automatic brightness adjustment are integrated.
