Now Germany will also have its own Netflix branch - the teams previously based in Amsterdam and responsible for Germany are expected to move to Berlin in autumn, according to the media magazine DWDL.de. On the one hand, this step comes unexpectedly, because Netflix Vice President Original Film Tendo Nagenda had said at a
Berlinale Talents event that Netflix had no plans for its own location in Germany.
On the other hand, the increasing number of country-specific productions, a result of
European 30% film quota and Netflix&s desire for attractive local productions make it necessary to expand and be close to the local productions.
Netflix is already represented in London and Madrid - an office in Paris will be opened soon. An office in Berlin, then responsible for the German-speaking market, is only a logical development. Netflix is increasingly producing more original German content, so "How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)" will soon be the third German Netflix production. Later in the year the new series "Skylines" and "Die Welle", the multi-part "Zeit der Geheimnisse", the second season of the celebrated first German Netflix in-house production "Dark" and the first German Netflix original film "Betonrausch" will go online.
For next year Netflix plans the new series "The Barbarians", "Biohackers", "1899" (by the "Dark" makers Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar), "Tribes of Europe" and "Unorthodox", as well as the movies "Isi & Ossi" and "Freaks" and "Freud" in cooperation with ORF.
The move will not only involve those responsible for Netflix Originals, co-productions and license purchases, but also the production management, marketing and PR teams. In addition, new jobs will probably also be created - so if you are interested, keep your eyes open for corresponding job advertisements.
