Micron Technology is introducing two new portable SSDs specifically for videographers, photographers and other creative professionals. The Crucial X9 Pro and X10 Pro, which are available in up to 4TB, both feature Micron TLC NAND memory and a new single-ASIC memory architecture for portable use. This allows extremely compact dimensions of 65 × 50 × 10 mm to be combined with a high storage capacity - according to Micron, the two SSDs offer the highest capacity per square millimeter currently available. ![]() In the case of the Crucial X10 Pro Portable SSD, speed is also added - it is said to offer sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,100 MB/s and 2,000 MB/s, respectively. The Crucial X10 Pro can be connected to a laptop or workstation via the included USB-C cable (USB 3.2 Gen2 2x2); video editing directly from the external drive is possible. It weighs 42g, is both waterproof and dustproof (IP55), and works with Windows, Mac, Android, game consoles, and more.
Slower is the Crucial X9 Pro, which is said to deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s. It is also marginally lighter at 38g, but also IP55-protected. The Crucial X10 Pro Portable SSD is offered for 139.22 (1TB), 224.90 (2TB) and 362.94 Euros for 4 TB, respectively. The X9 Pro is a bit cheaper and costs 310.58 Euros in the 4TB version.
