Traditionally, manual lenses are used a lot in the scenic environment. Here, manual focusing is just as much a part of good sound as the serrated rings around the optics. With a new optical series, Sony now wants to bring a little more automatism into this market. First and foremost, of course, in order to be able to set our own professional E-Mount large sensor cameras even better apart from the competition.
The core idea is to combine classic cine lens design with a fast and reliable autofocus motor, which allows automated focus shifts with Sony&s cameras (like the new FX9).
In addition to the electronic aperture, PowerZoom functionality is also integrated. This could even make pre-programmed zooming possible (still untypical for interchangeable optical systems).

The Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G
The first representative of the new Cinema Lens Series will be the FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G, which will support all mentioned functions. As an FE lens, the lens is designed for 35mm full-frame format and is therefore also suitable for the new PXW-FX9. It should be available from spring 2020 for 6000 Euro.
