New Entry-level drone from DJI on approach: Mini 2 SE will be the cheapest model

DJI teases a drone that will be unveiled on February 9 - for once, the teaser also reveals what it will be, namely the DJI Mini 2 SE. Thanks to some leaks, there are also already pictures of it and also many technical data. As the name suggests, where the new drone will fit in DJI&s lineup: the Mini 2 SE will replace the Mini SE launched in 2021 as the new entry-level model.

The most important information of the Mini 2 SE: in terms of design, it is identical to the Min SE and will be just as below the magic limit of 249 grams, will be able to record 2.7K video by means of a 1/2.3" sensor and stay in the air for up to 30 minutes. In keeping with an entry-level model, there are also features on board that make flying easier such as easy takeoff and landing with just a tap, smart shooting features like QuickShots and panorama shooting, and of course, an automatic return-to-home for returning to the starting point.

What makes the DJI Mini 2 SE different from the Mini 2 and Mini SE?
Since the new Mini 2 SE replaces the Mini SE as the entry-level model, in order to justify the lower price it must also be somewhat trimmed in terms of capabilities. According to the leaks so far, this at least affects the camera, which only records at a maximum of 2.7K instead of 4K like the Mini 2, as the Mini SE already did. It can withstand wind speeds of up to 38 km/h like the Mini 2 already did - but its ascent speed of four meters per second and a top speed of 13 meters per second are the same as the slower Mini SE, not the Mini 2&s 5 and 16 meters per second, respectively.

An upgrade over the previous SE model has at least been made to the video transmission system, which thanks to Ocusync 2.0 and compatibility with the new RC-N1 remote control should now be possible in ideal conditions at distances of up to 10 km - a significant improvement over the 4 km of the Mini SE. However, this value is only valid in the US, in Europe the range will (as always) be lower due to the use of other frequencies and will probably be closer to 6 km as with the Mini 2.

The resolution of the live video transmission is identical to the Mini2 and Mini SE at 720p with 30 frames per second, but the bitrate is unfortunately only the same as the Mini SE at 4 MB and not twice as large as the Mini 2.
We&ll find out if DJI has any surprises in store on February 9, when DJI officially unveils the Mini 2 SE. The price of the new DJI Mini 2 SE will probably be between that of the Mini 2 of 459 euros and the 299 euros of the officially sold out Mini SE. DJI will then charge a corresponding premium for the Fly More Combo package, which also includes the RC-N1 remote control and accessories.
