As expected, Apple has now also presented its new Mac mini with M4 chip. The price for the cheapest version in Germany has remained the same at 699 euros for the smallest entry-level version and has not been lowered slightly as with the new M4 iMac. Nevertheless, the good news is that 16 GB (instead of the previous 8 GB) are now installed in the smallest version, which in our eyes makes the cheapest model with 256 GB SSD even more
![]() Small but powerful: The new Mac mini M4 However, all upgrades beyond the basic model quickly become expensive. For example 24 GB RAM instead of 16 GB costs an additional 230 euros, and doubling this to 32 GB costs an extra 460 euros. If you prefer 512 GB, 1 or 2 TB instead of 256 GB of fixed storage space, you will pay an additional 230, 460 or 920 euros. However, as you need a fast external storage medium for video editing anyway, an internal 256 GB SSD may well be sufficient for the system and a few programmes alone. The M4 Pro model, which was presented in the same ultra-compact housing, is technically exciting, but certainly not cheap. Depending on the configuration, this computer comes with 12 or 14 processor cores, 16 or 20 shader cores and a doubled memory bus. The unified memory transfers its data at up to 273 GB/s, while the small M4 Mac mini ‘only’ manages 120 GB/s. The Mac mini M4 Pro is sold from 1649 euros, in the minimum configuration with 24 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. In the maximum configuration, 64 GB RAM can be configured at an additional cost of almost 700 euros. For a small box measuring approx. 12.7 x 12.7 x 5 cm, including the built-in power supply unit, that&s a lot of power, and it probably won&t even be particularly loud. On the other hand, for 1650 euros you can already get a PC with a very fast GPU, which is yet another number in terms of GPU acceleration. And the price gap to the smallest, but much more powerful Mac Studio is not very big either. However, anyone who has always been waiting for a computer like the Mac Studio Nano should be quite taken with the new Mac mini Pro M4. Incidentally, the mini Pro is also the first Mac to have Thunderbolt 5 on board, while the small new mini still relies on Thunderbolt 4. All variants can be pre-ordered now, the official sales launch (and therefore also delivery) is on 8 November. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Neuer Mac mini mit M4-Chip: Kleiner, aber ab 699 Euro nicht günstiger |
