Atomos has announced the latest generation of its Ninja monitor recorders: the first Ninja in 2010 was still an HD hard disk recorder, but the new models now handle resolutions of up to 6 or 8K.
Both models feature a polycarbonate body with a new "camo" look and now include more codecs as standard: 6K ProRes RAW, ProRes, DNxHD, and H.265, which was previously only available as a paid option. ![]() The new Atomos Ninja and Ninja Ultra recorders. While the Ninja is primarily aimed at DSLR and mirrorless camera owners, the Ninja Ultra is designed to make the most of camera-to-cloud technology and integrates with cinematic workflows using Atomos Connect. It can record full-quality files in ProRes RAW at up to 4K 60p, while also recording HD 60p in H.265. It also supports automatic file name matching, timecode, and recording from ARRI, Canon, and RED cameras. More supported cameras are expected to follow shortly. Ninja Ultra&s new 4K Camera-to-Cloud mode allows H.265 videos to be recorded and automatically uploaded at even higher resolutions and frame rates - in part because H.265 files are half the size of H.264 media. At the same time, they are said to be "more than good enough" for direct use in social media, sports reporting or news gathering. The Atomos Connect expansion module also enables RemoteView - a new technology that lets users share live views of the Atomos screen wirelessly with other Atomos monitors, as well as iPads, Macs and Apple TVs. This allows you to monitor what&s happening on set and look through any connected camera - even from anywhere in the world via the Internet. On the Ninja Ultra alone, the Atomos Connect module offers lower latency, higher throughput, and a more stable connection as it is equipped with the new Wi-Fi Standard 6E. ![]() The differences between the two new recorders at a glance. Both Ninjas are backwards compatible with their predecessors, the Ninja V and Ninja V+, so all Atomos and third-party accessories can be used with the new products. Both the new Ninja and Ninja Ultra will begin shipping in early September 2023 at prices of €599 and €799 (plus VAT), respectively. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Neue Ninja und Ninja Ultra Recorder von Atomos zur IBC - jetzt mit RemoteView |
