New Online Video Editor: Adobe Firefly Gets Upscaling via Topaz and Text-Based Video Editing

Adobe has just introduced two new AI models for image generation and video upscaling, along with new output control features for its generative image and video AI, Firefly, offering users even more control and choice in video creation. Furthermore, a beta version of the Firefly Video Editor is now available, allowing videos to be edited in the browser. Additionally, Adobe is once again offering all subscribers (from Pro level) unlimited image generations with all models (such as Google&s Gemini 3 Nano Banana and Imagen, FLUX.1, OpenAI&s GPT Image) and unlimited video generation with its own Firefly model until January 15th.
New Models for Upscaling and Image Generation
Adobe is expanding the already extensive range of current video models from other manufacturers (such as Google Veo 3.1, OpenAI&s Sora 2, Luma&s Ray, Runway Gen-2 Aleph) in Firefly with Topaz&s Astra model, which specializes in video upscaling. With its help, low-resolution (old) videos can be upscaled or sharpened to current resolutions of 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) or even 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels).
Furthermore, the selection of image AIs is being expanded with Black Forest Labs& latest image model, FLUX.2, which allows for the generation and editing of images with resolutions up to 1 megapixel and flexible aspect ratios. FLUX.2 can also generate photorealistic details and text within images and supports up to four reference images. FLUX.2 is available in the Firefly modules "Text to Image," "Prompt to Edit," and "Firefly Boards," as well as in Photoshop Desktop, and starting in January, in Adobe Express as well.

Editing Videos via Prompt
A problem users often encounter when generating videos: the result only partially matches the desired look of the video; one of the objects is not as desired. If the clip is regenerated, it&s like rolling the dice—maybe the new clip will be better—or maybe not. This process consumes valuable credits.
This should no longer be necessary, because with the new "Prompt to Edit" feature, clips can now be selectively edited afterwards via prompt using Runway&s Aleph model. For example, people or objects can be removed from the video or replaced with others via prompt, or the framing or camera movement of an existing clip (AI-generated or genuinely filmed) can be changed.

Camera Control via Reference Video
Another new feature enables precise control over the movement of the virtual camera through a scene by uploading a starting image in conjunction with a reference video showing the desired camera movement.
Firefly Video Editor in the Browser
New is the Firefly Video Editor, which can be used in a public beta version. With its help, complete videos can be created directly in the browser by combining generated clips, sounds, and image material with one&s own footage in a multi-track timeline.

The video can be edited classically directly in the timeline or—conveniently for interviews or other recordings of conversations—by editing the transcribed text, which also automatically edits the corresponding video. The finished video can be exported in various (social media-compatible) formats.
