New Parrot Anafi Ai drone can be flown via LTE

European drone specialist Parrot, known for its Bebop and Anafi models, has unveiled the first drone controlled by LTE.

The new Parrot Anafi Ai quadcopter with its foldable rotor arms is intended for professional applications in the field of photographic surveys and therefore has a powerful 48-MP main camera with a dynamic range of 14 f-stops, which can record 4K at up to 60fps and HDR10 videos at up to 30 fps and also supports P-Log. Hybrid image stabilization on 6 axes (3-axis mechanical, 3-axis electronic) is said to ensure sharp photos even in crosswinds up to 12.7 m/s.

Thanks to the Anafi Ai&s LTE/4G connectivity, it can be controlled via cellular from any distance and does not rely on line-of-sight. The only requirement is a SIM with sufficient data volume for transmission. The LTE connection between the drone and the user&s phone is encrypted. Control is via the Skycontroller 4, which can use a smartphone or small tablet as a display and output the live video via HDMI. It should be noted, however, that In Germany is only allowed to fly within visual range.

The Parrot Anafi Ai has an obstacle avoidance system that uses stereo cameras to detect objects in all directions and automatically avoid them. It reaches a maximum speed of 17 m/s (about 60 km/h) and can stay in the air for about 32 minutes on one battery charge.

Parrot provides the OpenFlight control software (the core of Parrot&s FreeFlight 7) as open-source software and offers developers a software development kit (SDK) to run their own code in the ANAFI Ai drone during flight. The SDK provides access to all flight sensors, including obstacle avoidance sensors, occupancy grids and Internet access. The streaming software adjusts the resolution and frame rate of the live video for the pilot depending on the current transmission quality responds to packet and frame loss.
