Sony has released new firmware for its compact Cinema Line full-frame or Super35/APS-C cameras FX30, FX3, and FX3, which brings a number of interesting innovations. The update not only brings new functions for better control and overview during recording, but also expands the possibilities in terms of compatibility, connectivity and metadata management. ![]() The new BIG6 start screen
The new www.sony.de/electronics/support/camcorders-and-video-cameras-interchangeable-lens-camcorders/ilme-fx30/software/00292566 Firmware 6.0 (Sony FX30 Firmware 6.0), www.sony.de/electronics/support/camcorders-and-video-cameras-interchangeable-lens-camcorders/ilme-fx3/software/00298559 Firmware 7.0 (Sony FX3 Firmware 7.0) and www.sony.de/electronics/support/interchangeable-lens-camcorders-ilme-series/ilme-fx3a/software/00364945 Firmware 2.0 (Sony FX3A Firmware 2.0) contain the identical new functions. However, it must be noted during the update that it can only be done from version 2.04 or 2.05 for the FX3 and only from version 1.05 for the FX30. If an older firmware version is used, the next older firmware must first be updated before updating to the latest version. New start screen for optimized controlA major innovation is the so-called BIG6 start screen, which Sony first introduced in its high-end CineAlta cameras. It is now available when the camera is switched on and offers an overview of the most important recording parameters and device settings at a glance, such as ISO, aperture, white balance, recording format, ND filter status, focus. This allows filmmakers to quickly see whether all values are set correctly before recording begins. Here it is demonstrated using the example of the Sony FX3, which received it earlier: Flexible frame rates without S&Q modeAnother innovation concerns the direct setting of frame rates in the new Fixed/Variable mode. Users can now set specific frame rates without having to go through the S&Q (Slow & Quick) mode. Improvements for monitoring and focusThere are also improvements in the area of focus support. The Focus Magnifier and Auto Magnifier functions in MF can now also be used in conjunction with the Bright Monitoring mode. This can make precise focusing much easier, especially in low light or when using manual lenses. In addition, the de-squeeze display for anamorphic lenses has been expanded. In addition to the previous 2x correction, 1.5x and 1.6x factors are now also available. This is particularly useful for users who work with anamorphic lenses whose squeeze factor is below 2x. External RAW workflow with Blackmagic RAWA step forward in terms of image quality is the new option to output RAW video via HDMI - in a format that is compatible with Blackmagic RAW. This allows the signal to be recorded externally with corresponding devices from Blackmagic Design. For users who rely on external RAW recordings, this opens up new options beyond the previous ProRes RAW workflow. ![]() Sony FX3 Network integration and data transferSony has also made improvements in network functionality. The camera can now automatically recognize USB-LAN adapters and establish a network connection as soon as it is switched on. This makes integration into production networks easier, especially in studio or live streaming environments. In addition, the upload workflow to the Creators& Cloud has been improved: videos can now be uploaded directly from the camera - based on markings such as OK/NG/KEEP. This requires the use of the Creators& App version 3.1.0 or higher. Also new is the option to filter camera images using clip flags before uploading them to a smartphone or FTP. Improved ND metadata and storage media displayAnother detail that is particularly relevant in professional productions: The camera can now also store the optical density of pre-registered ND filters in the metadata. This makes it possible to understand which filter material was used to record a scene - an advantage for post-production and archiving. In addition, the FX3 now displays the remaining capacity of both storage media during recording in Simultaneous or Auto Switch Media modes. This reduces the risk of unexpected recording interruptions during long takes. Security and app compatibilityThe update also strengthens the focus on modern security standards: outdated encryption methods such as WEP and WPA are no longer supported; instead, Sony relies on WPA2 and WPA3. Support for IPsec is also being dropped in favor of the more secure Access Authentication method. In conjunction with the Monitor & Control App (from version 2.4.0), new functions such as manual framing and setting clip flags are now available. ![]() Sony FX3 Here is an overview of the most important new functions- BIG6 start screen for an overview of recording settings - Fixed/Variable mode for direct frame rate setting - Focus magnifier and auto magnifier can be used with Bright Monitoring - 1.5x and 1.6x de-squeeze display for anamorphic lenses - HDMI output for external recording of Blackmagic RAW - Automatic detection of USB-LAN adapters - Display of both storage media capacities during recording - Storage of ND filter values in metadata - Clip-flag-based upload to Creators& Cloud - Improved security standards for WLAN - New app functions via Monitor & Control Here is our ![]() And our ![]() ![]() Our new overview article may also be of interest: ![]() ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Neue Sony FX3 und FX30 Firmware bringt BIG6-Startbildschirm, RAW-Video per HDMI und mehr |
