DJI has released an update that allows the compact ![]() DJI Mini 2
This is especially interesting for those pilots who use the Mini 2 as a second drone in addition to a Mavic 2 model and already own a Smart Controller - they can now leave the rather clunky Mini 2 remote control at home. Since the Mini 2 and the Smart Controller both use OcuSync 2.0, DJI was able to achieve the compatibility that many users have been wanting for some time with the help of a simple firmware update. Smart ControllerOriginally, the 2019 Smart Remote Controller was developed specifically for the Mavic - it replaces the smartphone that is otherwise usually required in addition to the remote control with an integrated solution of controller, OcuSync image transmission and extremely bright (1,000 nits) 5.5" display along with smartphone electronics for the corresponding flight apps. ![]() DJI Smart Controller The Smart Controller automatically connects to the drone, which is controlled via two -- removable for transport -- joystick controllers. The display is integrated into the body of the remote controller and provides a real-time image preview in FullHD resolution that is bright enough to remain visible on sunny days. The view can be customized and can accommodate multiple DJI and third-party apps. The radio frequency can switch between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz in interference situations. The range is said to be up to 8 km under ideal conditions. The remote&s housing includes a microphone and speakers, such as for live streaming, as well as an HDMI port that can output video at 4K 60fps (H.264 / H.265). With the DJI GO 4 app, the drone livestream will soon be transferred directly to Facebook or similar via a new SkyTalk feature (WLAN required). Battery life is said to be up to 2.5 hours, and the smart remote is also said to be able to withstand extreme temperatures from -20 °C to +40 °C. It weighs about 630g and currently costs 649 euros.
