New firmware for Nikon Z 5, Z 6, Z 50, Z 6II and Z 7II improves autofocus performance, among others

Nikon has released new firmware versions for its full-frame mirrorless DSLM cameras Z 5, Z 6, Z 6II and Z 7II and the APS-C camera Z 50.

The new features of Z 7II and Z 6II firmware version 1.20.

- Improved Live View focus point display response for face/eye detection and subject tracking.
- Improved performance of face/eye detection AF and subject visibility with optional flash units.
- Improved low-light autofocus detection times in the single AF focus mode setting.

In addition, the following issues have been fixed:
- Focus selection for custom setting a1 (AF-C priority selection) sometimes slowed shutter response.
- Focus accuracy was sometimes unreliable.
- Using custom picture settings created with Manage Picture Control when shooting movies at a frame size/rate of 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD); 60p or 50p sometimes produced unexpected results.

The new features of the Z 5 firmware version 1.10.

- Added an option in the SETUP MENU to save the focus position. If On is selected, the focus position that was in effect when the camera was turned off will be restored the next time the camera is turned on. This option only applies when the camera is used with Z-mount autofocus lenses.
- Improved low-light autofocus detection times for custom setting a11 (Low-light AF).

What&s New in Z 6 Firmware Version 3.30.

- An option to save the focus position has been added to the SETUP MENU. If On is selected, the focus position that was in effect when the camera was turned off will be restored the next time the camera is turned on. This option only applies when the camera is used with Z-mount autofocus lenses.
- A voice memo option has been added to the roles that can be assigned to the movie recording button via the f2 user setting (Custom Control Assignment). In the Voice Memo role, the movie recording button can record and play voice memos up to approximately 60 seconds long while an image is displayed.
- Resolved an issue that sometimes caused the camera to stop responding when time-lapse movie recording was interrupted.

What&s new in Z 50 firmware version 2.10.

- Resolved an issue that caused the option selected for the a2 (Auto Area AF Face/Eye Detection) custom setting in P, S, A, and M modes to be reset when the custom settings for U1 or U2 mode were reset
