New firmware for Panasonic LUMIX S5II/S5IIX, S9, GH7 and G9II

Panasonic has released new firmware for several LUMIX full-frame and MFT cameras, as well as selected S-series prime lenses, in addition to new versions of the LUMIX Lab and LUMIX Flow apps. The Panasonic LUMIX S5II/S5IIX and GH7 will receive, among other features, support for Bluetooth control with DJI RS Gimbals, integration with the Flow App, the ability to use the focus ring as a control ring for various camera settings, a Shutter Speed Limiter, and several other new functions. The S9 and G9II will also receive the configurable focus ring function, the Shutter Speed Limiter, and further improvements. The new functions of the various firmware versions for the respective cameras are listed below:

Firmware Update 2.4 for LUMIX S5IIX, Firmware Update 3.4 for LUMIX S5II, and Firmware Update 1.5 for DC-GH7

1. Improved Compatibility
- Bluetooth support for DJI RS 4 Pro / RS 4 / RS 4 Mini. See here

- Improved compatibility with flash units from OM Digital Solutions.
- Improved compatibility when used with our interchangeable lens S-R100500 and teleconverter (DMW-STC14/STC20). (LUMIX S5IIX and LUMIX S5II)

2. Support for LUMIX Flow App Version 1.3 or higher. Using the External Monitor function, LUTs can be applied to the live view, and multiple frame markers and a focus frame can be displayed.

3. Enhanced Focus Ring Function for interchangeable lenses (LUMIX S5IIX and LUMIX S5II): The focus ring can be used as a control ring – including freely selectable rotation direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) and the ability to assign individual functions. 4. Additional Video Function
- "Shutter Speed Limiter" has been added to the video menu.

5. Further Function Improvements and Enhancements
- Constant preview available when using flash.
- Startup speed when powering on has been improved.
- 17:9 aspect ratio for proxy videos has been added.
- The ISO control method when using flash has been changed.
- The aperture can now be set from F45 to F90 according to the L-Mount standard. (LUMIX S5IIX and LUMIX S5II)
- When registering both photo and video menus in "My Menu," common items will be reflected in both modes if they were registered in one of the menus.
- Operational stability has been improved.

Firmware Update 1.6 for LUMIX S9

1. Enhanced Focus Ring Function for interchangeable lenses (LUMIX S5IIX and LUMIX S5II): The focus ring can be used as a control ring – including freely selectable rotation direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) and the ability to assign individual functions.

2. Improved compatibility when used with our interchangeable lens S-R100500 and teleconverter (DMW-STC14/STC20).

3. Additional Video Function: "Shutter Speed Limiter" has been added to the video menu.

1. Improved Compatibility

S-Series Prime Lenses (Firmware v2.0): Focus Ring as Freely Assignable Control Ring

For S 18/24/35/50/85 mm (all F1.8) and S 100 mm F2.8 lenses, the focus ring can be used on the camera side as a control ring to adjust settings such as ISO, WB, tone curve parameters, or audio levels. In manual focus mode, the rotation direction can also be freely selected. Compatible LUMIX S-series cameras with current firmware include S1II, S1RII, S1IIE, S5II, S5IIX, and S9.
