New firmware for Panasonic S1H, S1R, S1, S5 brings support for BRAW and DJI's Active Track with [14:03 tue,13.July 2021 by Thomas Richter]
Panasonic has released firmware updates for its full-frame Lumix S1H, S1R, S1 and S5 cameras, which gives all four cameras support for DJI&s "Active Track" of its RS2 and RSC2 gimbals and enables the S1 and S5 to record RAW externally using Atomos Monitor/Recorder Video Assist 12G HDR. The Panasonic S1H gets an update to firmware version 2.5, the S1R gets firmware version 1.9, the S1 gets version 2.1, and the S5 gets firmware 2.3.
Active Track support for DJI RS2 and RSC2 gimbals.
Prerequisite for using DJI&s Active Track 3.0 feature is to update not only the camera&s firmware, but also that of the RS2/RSC2 gimbals to the new firmware just released.

A prerequisite for using the Active Track 3.0 tracking system already used in DJI&s drones is DJI&s Raven Eye image transmission system. With the Raven Eye system activated, an object can be marked via touchscreen from a cell phone or tablet, which is then independently tracked by the gimbal system, i.e. the gimbal automatically guides the camera to the selected object and ensures that it remains in focus.
Blackmagic RAW for Panasonic S1 and S5
Back in March the Panasonic Lumix S1H received support for BRAW, and now the S1 and S5 follow suit. Thus, by means of the new firmware, these two models also now handle true 1:1 5.9K RAW output (5888 x 3312, 16:9) at 24-30p and 12-bit color resolution via HDMI. In APS-C/S35, even C4K resolutions (4128x2176, 17:9) can be output at 24-60p, also in 12-bit. And for anamorphic projects, there&s also 3.5K recording with 3536 x 2656 sensors. Also in 12 bit with 24-60p.
Since the Panasonic S1, S1H and S5 use a very similar sensor, the results of our testing the S1H with the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR should be mostly transferable. Thus, the most relevant difference for Blackmagic RAW recording using Atomos& Video Assist 12G HDR monitor recorder is the much lower body prices of the S1 and S5.
However, the S1 requires the one-time chargeable activation of this function via software key DMW-SFU2.
The firmware update fixes an issue for all four cameras where a line-like noise appeared on the external monitor connected via HDMI. In addition, it resolved an issue that there were cases where some image quality modes of the video setting produced a file that could not be recognized as a video file when the camera was moved quickly or when the subject was moving at high speed.
New photo styles for S1R and S1.
The Panasonic S1R and S1 get the two new photostyles "L.ClassicNeo" and "L.Monochrome S" with the update.
