Nikon Imaging Cloud for Z6 II offers firmware updates and image transfer

[16:52 Sun,14.July 2024   by blip]

A free cloud service is now available for users of the new Nikon Z6 II. The Nikon Imaging Cloud can be used to download firmware updates directly to the camera, save images and download image profiles for special looks. We assume that the cloud service will also be compatible with other Nikon models in the future, but we were unable to find any information on this.

Once the connection between the camera and the Nikon Imaging Cloud has been set up, the camera is connected to the cloud as soon as it is switched on. However, a computer or smartphone is also required for this (as well as a Nikon ID).

The Nikon Imaging Cloud offers instant image backup and seamless transfer to third-party platforms (automatic and manual). Nikon has no capacity limit for image storage, but the images are automatically deleted from the Nikon Cloud 30 days after uploading - the service is therefore only suitable for image transfer or short-term storage, not as permanent storage. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Photos, Microsoft OneDrive and Nikon Image Space are supported as external storage services.

If new firmware is available for the camera, the update can be carried out automatically when the camera is charged. If you prefer to keep manual control, a yellow dot in the camera&s main menu informs you when a new version is available.

Color profiles can also be downloaded directly from the cloud to the camera. Up to nine profiles ("image recipes") from Nikon and Nikon Creators can be stored in the cloud at the same time. As soon as they are transferred to the camera, they appear there as new Picture Control profiles.
