Today is the day: Nikon has officially unveiled the new RED cameras with Nikon Z-Mount: The V-RAPTOR[X] Z Mount and the KOMODO-X Z Mount. Both models are the first cameras in a new series of digital "Z-CINEMA" cinema cameras. Like the (remarkably) remaining Canon RF versions in their portfolio, the new Z-Mount models also feature a locking mechanism ensuring a secure fit for Nikkor Z-Mount lenses.
With the Nikon Z-Mount, a whole range of lens-specific functions are integrated into the RED Z-Mount cameras. RED lists the following features in the tech specs: ![]() The following NIKKOR Z lens features are supported by RED’s Z mount cameras (some features may be lens specific): - Assignable Control Ring - Control Ring Rotational Response - Reversible Direction Focus and Control Rings - Non-linear and Linear Focus Control - Power Zoom Ring Response - Swappable Control Ring and Focus Ring Positions - Smooth Iris Control - Power Zoom Switches and Speed - Assignable Lens Function Buttons - Built-in Teleconverters - Lens VR - Retractable lenses The following features are either partially supported or not supported as of the current firmware version 2.0: - Lens Display LCD supports Focal Length and Metric Focus Distance - Focus Range Switches not supported - Focus Memory Set and Recall Rings are not supported - Lens Correction (Vignette, Distortion, and Chromatic Aberration) are not supported Unlike the Canon RF Mount, the smaller flange distance of the Nikon Z-Mount allows the adaptation of DSLM lenses from other manufacturers, such as Sony E-Mount, via adapter to the Z-Mount. The Nikon Z-Mount is therefore somewhat more flexible in terms of lens options. We are particularly excited about the implementation of Nikon&s autofocus technology in the new Z-CINEMA cameras. RED is already talking about an improved AF function – whether this is already on the level of Nikon DSLMs remains to be seen. We will probably see gradual improvements via firmware updates. More on this soon on slashCam... ![]() In addition, RED has also introduced adapters for PL lenses – both with integrated electronic ND and without ND. Both adapters have electronic contacts and support Cooke /i Lens communication as well as power and record triggering. Prices and Availability The price for the Komodo-X Zmount starts at US,995 The price for the V-Raptor X Z-Mount starts at US,995 ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Nikon stellt RED Kameras mit Z-Mount vor: V-RAPTOR-X und KOMODO-X Z Mount |
