On 14.10.2020 at 14.00 o'clock Nikon presents new cameras in a Web-Launch Event. As these are updates of the Nikon Z6 and Z7, the frame data of the cameras are already given. So full format with Z-Mount, Z6 rather lower resolution etc.
After the direct competition has presented a lot of new video features in the last months (especially Canon with the EOS R5/R6 and Sony with the Alpha7S III), Nikon will probably improve a little bit. The big question is of course how much:
8K? 6K? 4K/50-60p? Internal video RAW recording? Clean external RAW?Basically Nikon's full format Z models are not uninteresting for videographers and they also have good autofocus and sensor stabilization. However, in detail (e.g. debayering) the competition simply offered more for videographers. Nevertheless: Successful shots can be achieved even with the "old" Z6, which will probably slip into particularly interesting price regions after the update.
In any case, we are very curious if Nikon will catch up with the video functions and surprise us all. We also think it would be a shame if the DSLM hybrid market for film makers were to shrink by one important player.
We will know more in two weeks...
