Here comes another firmware update from Nikon, this time for the Z6III. Version 2.00 is said to include a total of around 70 major and minor improvements, in both video and photo modes, including Auto-Capture, bird recognition in autofocus, live streaming via USB, etc.
New features in v2.00 for the Nikon Z6III
A bird mode is new for subject recognition. It should be able to recognize and track birds in flight, small and nimble birds, or birds in front of a complex background (photo and video).
Also new is an integrated focus limiter for higher accuracy or speed of the Z6III's autofocus system. The camera then ignores everything outside a defined distance range (only when using lenses with a Z mount).
Auto Capture enables new possibilities for remote triggering by defining parameters at which the recording should start. Criteria for movement, subject recognition or distance can be defined and combined for maximum control. To extend battery life, the start date, start time and duration of the recording can be set via a schedule function.
The Z6III now supports live streaming via the camera's USB port, so it can also be used as a high-quality webcam. The camera only needs to be connected to a computer or smart device via the UVC/UAC-compatible USB port.
With update 2.00, the Z6III becomes compatible with Nikon's photo authentication service according to the C2PA standard. After receiving a certificate from Nikon, the service can be implemented in the camera, which was developed and tested in collaboration with AFP (Agence France-Presse).
When recording videos to an external recorder, file names used in the camera can now also be recorded, provided the recorder supports the transfer of file names via HDMI (Atomos Ninja V / V+, Ninja (2023 models), Ninja Ultra, Shogun (2023 models), Shogun Ultra, Shogun Connect).
In addition, a C15 recording mode for fast continuous shooting is new, as is Pixel Shift photography with focus shift and exposure bracketing, better FTP connectivity for faster workflows, more assignable recording functions and improved display options, as well as more flexible playback and editing directly in the camera.
