With the 4.10 firmware update available for free download, Nikon is integrating additional scene detection into its flagship full-frame camera, the Nikon Z9. These are new options for bird and aircraft detection.
According to Nikon, the selectable Scene Recognition improves the overall recognition performance of birds. In addition to improved detection and AF performance for complicated and high-contrast backgrounds such as forests and rocky mountains, it is also said to offer the ability to quickly detect birds in various movements and postures, such as flying, sitting and even those with a unique appearance. AF tracking performance for birds in flight is also said to have been improved for seamless focus tracking.
To support aircraft shooting, the Z 9's new firmware update is said to now offer the same subject detection performance as the Z 8, enabling reliable detection of aircraft regardless of size. In addition, subject detection is said to have been improved in dark scenes and those with turbulent backgrounds.
