Nikon too introduces a professional super-telephoto lens with 800mm fixed focal length for its mirrorless system cameras with Z-bayonet. The NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S weighs "only" 2385g and is thus 2.3 kg lighter than its counterpart with F bayonet. The built-in image stabilizer with Synchro VR is said to provide compensation of up to 5.5 stops when the lens is used with a Z camera.

The 22-lens optical design in 14 groups includes a specially shaped and positioned Phase Fresnel (PF) lens for high sharpness, as well as 3 ED glass lenses and an SR glass lens that minimize chromatic aberration from the center to the edge of the image. Nano crystal coatings are said to significantly reduce ghosting and flare. The front lens is fluorine coated.
Autofocus is said by Nikon to be fast, precise and quiet. The closest focusing distance is 5 meters. The L function button and adjustment ring can be assigned functions, and the memory button can be used to store distance settings (after a firmware update).
The aperture consists of 9 blades. An integrated slide-in compartment facilitates the insertion of filters to allow more control in difficult lighting situations. All moving parts on the lens are sealed to keep out dust and moisture.
By using Z teleconverters, the range of the super telephoto lens can be further extended to 1120 mm or 1600 mm. The NIKKOR Z 800 mm f/6.3 VR S is expected to be available in stores from the end of April 2022 for EUR 7,299.
