As one of the last big camera manufacturers, Olympus has now also announced its own tool which allows to use Olympus cameras as a high quality webcam (unfortunately only under Windows for the time being). Olympus OM-D Webcam Beta is compatible with the Olympus E-M1X, E-m1, E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark II and E-M5 Mark II cameras.
The corresponding camera is connected to the computer via USB-C and then appears as "OM-D Webcam Beta" in the video source selection in video conferencing programs such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Skype thanks to the Webcam Tool. However, since no audio output is supported by the camera, users will have to look for an extra audio solution such as an internal or external microphone or a USB microphone, such as an audio recorder from the Olympus LS-P series.
As a result, almost all major camera manufacturers have now released special software that provides webcam functionality to some of their models: In addition to
Fujifilm&s Webcam Tool for its GFX and X series cameras, there is Panasonic with
Lumix Tether for the Panasonic GH5, G9, GH5S, S1, S1R and S1H and Canon with its
EOS Webcam Utility for cameras such as the EOS-1D II/III, 5D Mark IV, 6D/7D Mark II, EOSR/RP and PowerShot G5X II, G7X III and SX70 HS.
