From a German perspective, the remake of Dune (Denis Villeneuve&s) was one of the most successful films of the evening, winning a total of five Oscars: Hans Zimmer was honored for Best Score and Gerd Nefzer for Best Visual Effects. Best Cinematography (Greig Fraser), Best Production Design (Patrice Vermette and others) and Best Editing (Joe Walker) also went to the sci-fi desert epic. The Best Director Oscar went to Jane Campion&s The Power of The Dog, which had also been a candidate for Best Picture in the run-up. °VY= LRDPo0CHrko Personally, we find it quite welcome that the creative potential, which can now be found in many cases at streaming service providers, is also recognized accordingly at the Oscars. However, this must not be at the expense of the cinema landscape. At the Oscars, the tragicomedy "Coda" was the first streaming title to win the coveted Best Picture award. Coda (directed by Sian Heder) runs on Apple TV+ and (unfortunately) has not yet been shown in cinemas in Germany. In total, Coda could claim three Oscars: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay as well as for actor Troy Kotsur the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.  |
