Oscars 2021 - more modern and diverse: Nomadsland wins Best Film and more

[13:37 Mon,26.April 2021   by Rob]

bildWe had reported here already about the Oscar shortlist 2021 - last night the time had come: The Oscar ceremony, delayed due to the pandemic and held at a new venue (Union Station, Los Angeles), has announced the winners 2021.

Among the big winners of the evening is Nomadsland by director Chloé Zhao, starring Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), whom we hold in high esteem, and who won the Best Director and Best Actress Oscars in addition to Best Picture. Chinese-born director Chloé Zhao is thus the second woman to win for Best Director in the history of the Oscars. The fact that both her origin and her gender remain worthy of mention is an example of both the path the Oscars still have ahead of them and the slow changes (#OSCARSSOWHITE) in the name of more inclusion, which we expressly welcome.

Here is also the trailer for Nomadsland, which we are very much looking forward to (hopefully soon in a cinema):

The Oscar for Best Cinematography went to Erik Messerschmidt for his camera work in MANK in David Fincher&s homage to Orson Wells Citizen Kane (Netflix).

We were also delighted to see the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature go to the small but mighty wildlife film production My Octopus Teacher by Pippa Ehrlich, James Reed and Craig Foster:
