More than 19,000 artists and creatives, including celebrities like Bjorn Ulvaeus (ABBA), Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Thom Yorke (Radiohead), have signed a declaration opposing the unlicensed use of creative works for training AI models. They argue that this poses an unfair threat to the livelihoods of creators:
Notably absent are signatures from the film industry, suggesting that directors and producers do not (yet) feel as affected as musicians, writers, or actors. The artists& battle against the unregulated use of their works by AI is also reflected in ongoing lawsuits against AI companies. In California, initial protective laws have already been passed, requiring transparency in AI training data and aiming to protect artists& rights.
