Panasonic had already announced with the S5II also the special filmmaker model as LUMIX S5IIX (DC-S5M2X), which is now with additional PRO video features at the end of April finally to be delivered.
Most of the features of this camera
are official since January 4, 2023, but a "little something" was added. The new camera should now also support Blackmagic Raw (see below).
Externally, the dimensions remain the same (134 x 102 x 90 mm with a weight of approx. 740 grams including battery), but the S5IIX is clearly distinguishable as the first Lumix "Black Edition". This is because the entire camera, including the lettering, is kept in black tones, which might make the controls more difficult to read in darker environments.

The Panasonic LUMIX S5IIX (including the lettering) is kept in black throughout.
Internally, the Panasonic S5IIX records as usual at full sensor readout in 6K resolution 10 bit 4:2:0 up to max. 30p. 10 bit 4:2:2 is possible in 4K up to max 60p, switching to APS-C crop above 30p. All of these formats are only available as GOP formats on the "normal" S5II. The S5IIX now also offers ALL-I codecs internally, as well as ProRes.
The LUMIX S5IIX is additionally capable of outputting both 5.8K/C4K/3.3K Apple ProRes and 4K ALL-Intra recordings at up to 800 Mbps to an external SSD via the USB output (internally "only" 400/600 Mbps).
In addition, the S5IIX will now allow RAW output in two formats: once the already announced ProRes RAW (PRRAW) video output to Atomos recorders - and now also a Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) output to Blackmagic Video Assist recorders. Corresponding updates for the recorders should be available soon. Output will be via a full-size HDMI port.
As another Pro Video feature, the LUMIX S5IIX will enable wired and wireless live streaming as well as USB tethering.
As with many previous LUMIX cameras, there&s also 4-channel audio, for which you can use Panasonic&s XLR adapter (DWM-XLR1). 48kHz/24-bit audio can be recorded using the built-in or an external microphone. High-resolution 96kHz/24-bit audio recording is only possible via the XLR adapter.
The LUMIX S5IIX is scheduled to hit the shelves of retailers no later than June 2023 at a price of €2,499.
