With the launch of the LUMIX GH7, Panasonic has also announced a new software upgrade key (DMW-SFU3A, available separately for around 200 dollars), which offers an exciting new feature:
Panasonic emphasises the direct compatibility with the ARRI Look Library. This contains 87 special ‘ARRI Looks’ to choose from. The individual ARRI Look files can also be previewed in the special ![]() ![]() Thanks to the new REAL TIME LUT function for ‘baking in looks’, it is also possible to save the LUT package for the 709 conversion (ARRI Look Library LogC3 to Rec709 3D LUTs) in the LUT library of the LUMIX GH7 and combine it with the REAL TIME LUT function to record videos with ARRI LUTs directly from the camera. In a professional environment, it is of course more exciting to be able to use the LUMIX GH7 as a B-Cam alongside an ARRI, and Panasonic specifically mentions this purpose: ‘... can easily adjust colours in shooting situations where cinema cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA Mini are used as the main camera.’ It is also interesting to note that the key can also be purchased for the GH6, where it supposedly also enables LogC3. However, there are two critical points to note: Firstly, the latest ALEXA 35 camera uses ARRI LogC4 and is therefore not compatible with the GH6/7 in the LogC3 colour workflow. And secondly, for experienced LUT DJs, a colour transformation from V-Log to LogC3 in post-production (e.g. in DaVinci Resolve) should not be rocket science. Nevertheless, a colour-certified camera can of course be better ‘passed through’ in the production environment. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Panasonic lizenziert ARRI LogC3 für die LUMIX GH7 |
