Sigma presents an interesting full-frame zoom in its Art line. With a wide focal length range from 28 to 105mm, a continuous aperture of f/2.8 and a relatively low weight of 995g, it is a versatile newcomer. It can be used on mirrorless cameras with Sony E and Leica L mount.
Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art
The optical design of the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art comprises 2 FLD, 1 SLD and 5 large-diameter aspherical lenses and is intended to ensure high image quality over the entire image section and across all focus levels from close-up to infinity. Thanks to the included aspherical elements, the overall length could be reduced without sacrificing image quality according to Sigma - the lens measures 157.9mm (L version).
In addition to a Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML), which reduces stray light and ghost images, SIGMA&s Nano Porous Coating (NPC) technology is used to minimize reflections and light scattering.

In order to optimize the zoom lens for video recording, focus breathing has also been reduced as much as possible over the entire focal length range - the image section should remain largely constant despite focus shifts. The closest focusing distance is 40cm throughout; in the maximum telephoto range, an image scale of 1:3.1 can be achieved.
An HLA drive (High-Response Linear Actuator) is used for fast focusing, which the lens controls using a newly developed algorithm to achieve high acceleration with very smooth operation. The autofocus with automatic eye detection used in mirrorless cameras is also supported.
The aperture is made up of 12 blades. A dedicated aperture ring is available, and thanks to the “de-click function”, the aperture can also be adjusted steplessly and silently. Those who prefer to set the aperture on the camera body can use the lock function of the aperture ring and are protected against accidental adjustment.
When zooming, the tube extends; a zoom lock switch locks the lens in the wide-angle range to prevent the tube from extending unintentionally due to its own weight. The lock can be released not only via the switch, but also by turning the zoom ring.
The dust and splash-proof Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art will cost 1,649 euros and is expected to be released at the end of September.
