According to Western Digital (WD, HGST and SanDisk), at least 6.5 exabytes (6.5 million terabytes) of 3D NAND flash memory already produced is unusable due to contamination at two production facilities in Japan jointly operated with Kioxia (formerly Toshiba). However, since the damage has not yet been fully accounted for by WDC and Kioxia, it could be even greater than previously estimated.
