Tascam has launched the CA-XLR2d, a microphone adapter and preamplifier that allows professional external microphones to be used with mirrorless cameras, among other devices. Until now, however, Nikon cameras could only receive external audio signals via an analog cable connection. Now, Tascam introduces the Nikon-Kit CA-XLR2d-N, another variant of its XLR microphone adapter, which digitally transmits audio in professional quality to the new mirrorless Nikon Z R via its accessory shoe. Thanks to Tascam&s HDDA microphone preamplifiers, creatives can achieve clean, noise-free recordings with a wide dynamic range in a variety of film scenarios – eliminating the need for post-synchronization of audio and video.

Professional Features
Equipped with two XLR/TRS combo jacks and a mini-jack, the camera can be used with shotgun and condenser microphones, as well as lavalier microphones and line-level sources. Powerful A/D converters transmit the audio signal digitally via the accessory shoe and draw their power directly from the camera body. Processing functions such as auto-level, low-cut filter, and limiter provide support even for demanding tasks.
Furthermore, the CA-XLR2d allows two input channels to be linked, enabling simultaneous control of input gain, level, and limiter settings for both left and right channels during stereo recordings. The analog output allows the audio signal to be monitored or fed into another camera or recorder. The solution also features an integrated shock-mounted microphone holder (a passive cold shoe mount on top).
Price and Availability
The Tascam CA-XLR2d-N XLR microphone adapter is expected to be available immediately, but as far as we could ascertain, it has not yet appeared at retailers as a new variant. Since the manufacturer has not provided a price, it is unclear whether the CA-XLR2d-N will be introduced at the same price as the versions for Canon and Fujifilm (which were €590 at their announcement in 2022; current street prices are significantly lower).
