Jarred Land from RED teases again: This time with a detailed screenshot of a RED camera status display, which promises some innovations for the RED camera portfolio. For example, the image shows "8K 17:9 / R3D LQ" with 120 fps as the recording format. This is interesting in several ways:
First, the max 8K frame rate in the current RED DSMC2 portfolio is 60p (Monstro 8K), and second, the nomenclature for R3D compression currently only matches Komodo (
here's our hands-on test) HQ, MQ and LQ.
This could indicate that RED is cutting down the many previous compression levels in favor of the clearer HQ, MQ and LQ for the DSMC3 series.
Furthermore, the designation "Cfx" can be found in the display, which could point to Cfexpress storage media (type A, B?) that are new for RED.
And finally, with a bit of imagination, you can also see a possible "SDI-2" lettering on the left edge of the screen, which would suggest at least two SDI outs (the current RED Ranger models have 3 SDI outs).
We also find the ARRI-like monitor/menu control unit interesting, with the typical DeepL access keys to the most important camera settings above and below the display.
Our guess here is a new flagship DSMC3 RED - soon we should all know more - because next to the picture you can also find the time information " 2 more sleeps" ...
