RED has developed a new 8K full-frame sensor with global shutter for its recently launched V-Raptor[X] and V-Raptor XL[X] camera models. The Komodo already has such a global shutter CMOS, but only in S35 size - so now it is also available in a larger format (resolution 35.4MP). RED again states a dynamic range of 17+ f-stops, which would be an unchanged value compared to the previously used V-RAPTOR 8K VV sensors, despite the new readout method. It remains to be seen to what extent this will be confirmed in independent tests. ![]() RED 8K V-Raptor models with global shutter In a new "Global Vision" mode (Extended Highlights), this can be extended by a further 3 f-stops for even more dynamic range, even in extreme highlights (although not at higher frame rates). Another new feature is a phantom track recording mode for virtual production environments. This allows two video tracks to be recorded in parallel, in addition to an actual (green screen) view and a fully assembled (virtual) video.

However, the built-in audio hardware is said to have been optimized to achieve better audio quality when recording with external microphones. Another new feature appears to be face recognition for autofocus. ![]() V-Raptor[X] The larger V-Raptor XL[X] again comes with an integrated electronic ND filter, an interchangeable mount as well as extended interfaces and power options and costs 44,995 dollars in the basic version. The RED V-Raptor[X] is available for 29,995 dollars - both cameras should be available immediately. Once again, there is an upgrade program that allows owners of V-RAPTOR and V-RAPTOR XL models (without X / Global Shutter sensor) to upgrade their cameras. ![]() ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Neue RED 8K V-Raptor-Modelle mit Global-Shutter-Sensor vorgestellt (Vollformat) |
