RTX 4090 - Nvidia suspects application error as reason for cable fires

After the cases of scorched RTX4090 cards had accumulated on the net in recent weeks, Nvidia promised an investigation of the individual cases. This has not yet been completed, but Nvidia has already published a statement on the first indications.
In this statement, the company believes to have knowledge of around 50 cases, which should of course be put in relation to the number of models sold, which Nvidia does not communicate. According to rough estimates, the number of RTX4090 models sold worldwide should be between 100,000 and 150,000 cards.
Seen in this light, it does not seem to be a "big" problem at least. And in every case that has become known, an improperly plugged cable could have been the cause. For clarification, Nvidia has published two more pictures to illustrate how deep the 12-pin power connector should actually be inserted:
Basically, one can and may wait a little until the topic has literally cooled down a bit and the steam has gone out of it. Because for a solid RTX4090 workstation setup, you should also plan a very potent power supply and appropriate cooling. It is quite unlikely that a new crypto wave will send GPU prices to the moon during this planning period. On the other hand, it is much more likely that prices will drop again in the next few weeks due to the general moods of the market (war, inflation, competition, dollar).
