Red Giant brings lush VFX suite to Adobe After Effects

bildRed Giant has introduced a new VFX suite that integrates keying, tracking, cleanup, and visual effects compositing tools directly into Adobe After Effects. The Red Giant VFX Suite consists of nine tools that provide a powerful toolkit for realistic VFX compositing, automatic chroma keying, fast and accurate planar tracking, object substitution/removal, photorealistic glow, beautiful prismatic shift effects, and camera-inspired lens flares. All plug-ins come with a GPU-accelerated engine that is supposed to provide a fast workflow under After Effects.

Supercomp is a compositing environment designed to make it easy to create complex, seamless composites. In Supercomp, light and atmosphere effects interact with all layers and elements of a scene. This should save many manual sub-compositions:

The automatic calculation algorithms of the Primatte Keyers should automatically create a perfect key. New is Core Matte, a tool that holds the inside of the key and at the same time preserves fine, semi-transparent details at the edges. Thanks to GPU optimization, the key should work up to 3x faster than in previous versions.

The King Pin Tracker is designed to provide fast and accurate planar corner tracking, even when the shapes are not simple rectangular. With "To" and "From" pins and the ability to move and rotate in planar space, an object can be nailed to the video.

With the Spot Clone Tracker smaller image errors can be tracked and erased automatically. The object deletion follows an integrated tracker, which can even automatically adjust the illumination by cloning light, color and texture separately.

Optical Glow is a photorealistic glow effect for use in professional visual effects and motion graphics. With the integrated gamma management even virtual light bulbs should always look realistic. But also lightsabers, spaceship engines, police lights and neon signs should be made to glow photorealistically.

Chromatic Displacement uses one layer to move the pixels of another. Unlike the classic Displacement Map in After Effects, Chromatic Displacement uses the displacement image as a height map to provide organic results. This is intended to achieve professional visual effects such as force fields, heat waves, refraction or cloaking effects without much manual work:

In the Knoll Light Factory lensflares can now be rendered interactively on the GPU. With the editor you can adjust the 200 included presets:

With Shadow you can add perspective correct shadows in front of or behind a layer. Alpha channel and brightness can be used as calculation basis. With options for softness, bend, length, color, the Red Giant shadow effect extends the normal shadow tools in After Effects.
And with the latest new Reflection plugin you should be able to add layers very easily a realistic reflection. With controls for softness, distance drop, length, this effect should go far beyond the usual methods of creating reflections.

All tools of the new VFX Suite for Adobe After Effects work in Adobe After Effects CC 2018 and higher. Knoll Light Factory, Primatte Keyer, Optical Glow, and Chromatic Displacement also work in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 and later. Both Windows and Mac are supported.
