43rumors has reportedly heard a new rumor, suggesting (as per www.43rumors.com/some-unverified-rumors-suggest-that-a-new-panasonic-lx100-iii-fixed-lens-camera-might-be-announced-on-october-17/) that Panasonic will unveil a third version of its Lumix LX100 on October 17. Should this indeed be the case – a claim about which we have some doubts – a new LX100 would likely evoke warm memories for many readers.
![]() Will Panasonic unveil a new LX100 III on October 17? Over 10 years ago, the first Lumix LX100 was released and was far ahead of its time. As one of many compact cameras – which were still selling exceptionally well at the time – it attempted to poach market share from the particularly successful Sony RX100. And, unlike its Sony competitor, it excelled at filming in 4K resolution. This was not yet a standard feature 10 years ago. At the time of the LX100&s release, Panasonic&s own GH4 was one of the most successful 4K DSLMs, and the small compact had inherited a significant amount of its video DNA. As a "GH4 for the pocket" with a rather fast fixed zoom lens, the camera was also (as per www.slashcam.de/artikel/Test/Panasonic-DMC-LX100---kompakte-GH4-fuer-die-Hosentasche---alles-.html) very popular with many slashCAM readers and indeed offered many contemporary options for filmmakers. All this at a street price of just 700 Euros. Subsequently, however, compact cameras were displaced by smartphones and have now almost completely disappeared from the product catalogs of major camera manufacturers. Recently, however, they have seen a resurgence in demand on the used market, as they are now considered "retro" by the younger generation. This is one reason why the used market price for LX100 models has risen sharply in recent months. And for this reason, it could be quite realistic that Panasonic might attempt to revive an old model to capitalize on the current trend. Especially since the camera&s retro appearance was already a compelling factor for many buyers back then. However, should the rumor prove true, we would strongly assume that Panasonic will not significantly alter the camera&s internal components. It&s unlikely we&d see much more than a USB-C port – as recently mandated by the EU. However, if Panasonic were to give the internals a complete overhaul, a potential blockbuster could be awaiting us: Features from the GH6/7, such as improved autofocus and Arri Color Science, could find their way into a desirable, pocket-sized camera for cinematic filmmakers. However, such dreams are likely unrealistic, especially since the second LX100 model has also been unavailable for a long time. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: 43Rumors - Stellt Panasonic am 17.
