Runway has just released the new Video Restyle feature, which makes it possible to give a video a completely new look. To define the new look, the first frame of a video is given a new style, for example, using image AI – this new style is then applied to the entire video sequence. Users have already published some impressive examples with the new Video Restyle.
In this way, old films can be completely transformed (and, for example, a James Bond clip can be turned into an animation). Likewise, a self-filmed real video can serve as a sketch, including scenic setting and main character with all movements, for a film that then gets a much more sophisticated look.
This gives you a high degree of control, for example, over the setting of a scene and the movements of a figure, and you can have them exactly mimic your own movements. The background can also be changed in style or completely replaced.
The image of the new style can easily be generated, for example, with the help of Runway&s Image-to-Image image AI, starting from the first frame of the video, which makes it possible to give an image a completely new look via prompt. The results become interesting and sometimes strange if not the first frame, but another image is used as a reference for restyling; the AI then "morphs" both into each other.
Video Restyle can also be used to artificially age or rejuvenate a person through the corresponding reference image, or to give them a tattoo:
