Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 with mini-LED technology and 2,000 nits brightness: First 240Hz 4K gaming mon

[12:03 Sun,12.June 2022   by Thomas Richter]

Samsung had already (unveiled) the Odyssey Neo G8 in January www.slashcam.de/news/single/Samsung-Odyssey-Neo-G-Monitor-mit--Quantum-Mini-LE-16992.html, now it should finally be available soon along with the G7 (G75NB) and G4 (G40B) models in the same range, all in 16:9 format. The Odyssey Neo G8 (model name: G85NB) is the first UltraHD 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) monitor with a refresh rate of 240Hz - until now, users still had to choose between a high resolution (and myximum 144 Hz) or a high refresh rate.

What makes the gaming monitor interesting for working with video is its Quantum Mini LED display, a curved (1000R radius of curvature) 32" VA panel with a mini LED backlight (1,196 zones) that has a contrast ratio of 1,000. 000, a response time of 1ms (GtG) as well as a peak brightness of 2,000 nits in HDR mode via "Quantum HDR 2000" (previously incorrectly called DisplayHDR 2000 on the Neo G9), but the typical one is only 350 nits. It also covers 95% of the professional DCI-P3 color space. The frame rate is variable via AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

The G8 features a new display technology called Matte Display, which is said to offer both glare and reflection protection to minimize distractions. In addition, the monitor features a height adjustable stand (HAS) and pan and tilt functions for ergonomic efficiency and VESA-compliant mounting.

In appearance, it is quite similar to the larger Neo G9 with its white chassis; like the latter, it also features CoreSync ambient lighting, which illuminates the background to match the screen content for greater immersion. Its interfaces consist of two HDMI 2.1 and one Displayport 1.4 as well as a USB3.0 hub. It is supposed to hit the market this June - Samsung still doesn&t give any information about the price, though - for orientation: the much bigger Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 currently costs around 1,600 Euros.

.
Also 32", the Odyssey Neo G7 (G75NB) 4K monitor also relies on mini-LED technology with 1196 lighting zones. It, too, has a curved 1000R VA panel, which also has a 1 ms response time (GtG), a peak brightness of 2,000 nits per Quantum HDR 2000, support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and a static contrast ratio of one million to one. Only its refresh rate is slightly lower than the G8&s at 165 Hz. Its interface selection is again identical to the G8 with two HDMI 2.1 and one Displayport 1.4.

Just like that, it has the CoreSync backlight for higher immersion when gaming. The G7 should be available from the end of July 2022.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G4

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G4 is very different from the other two models; while it also offers a very high refresh rate of 240 Hz, it does not use mini-LED technology, its typical brightness is only 400 nits, and it only has FullHD resolution. Its interfaces include a Display Port 1.2 and two HDMI 2.0 ports.
