Samsung has officially begun mass production of its latest NVMe SSD, the PM9E1 Gen 5, which achieves blazing read speeds of up to 14.5 GB/s and write speeds of up to 13 GB/s, along with 2,100K IOPS random reads and 2,640K IOPS random writes. This makes it significantly superior to its predecessor, the PM9A1, not only doubling its speed but also its durability, as it reaches 2,400 TBW (Terabytes Written), double that of the previous model&s 1,200 TBW. The high read speed is made possible by the use of PCIe 5.0 x4, whose maximum transfer speed of 15.75 GB/s across four PCIe lanes is nearly fully utilized (the predecessor used PCIe 4.0).
The Samsung PM9E1 SSD in M.2 format will be available in four different capacities: 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. The 4 TB variant, in particular, is targeted at professional users who need to store large amounts of high-resolution videos, AI-generated data, and gaming content. ![]() Samsung PM9E1 Gen 5 NVMe SSD In addition to improved transfer speeds, the PM9E1 also boasts 50% higher energy efficiency compared to its predecessor. This makes it particularly interesting for filmmakers and video editors who rely on powerful but energy-efficient storage solutions to maximize the battery life of their mobile workstations. According to Samsung, the PM9E1 also features enhanced security functions, such as device authentication and firmware tamper checks, supported by the latest Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) Version 1.2. Although an official release date and pricing have not yet been announced, the PM9E1 SSD is expected to hit the market soon after the start of mass production. For filmmakers and video professionals looking for a powerful solution for their daily workflow, this could be an interesting option. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Samsungs neue PM9E1 Gen 5 NVMe SSD - 4 TB groß und 14.5 GB/s schnell |
