Western Digital is showing the prototype of a pocket-size 8TB external SSD at CES 2020, it is the largest external SSD to date, currently only 4TB SSDs are available. The new SanDisk brand model supports transfer speeds of up to 20 Gbps (2,500 MB/s) via SuperSpeed USB and is also recommended for video editing thanks to its capacity, speed and compact size.
There is not yet an official price or even a release date for the new Ultra Dual Drive Luxe SSD - SanDisk only announces that the drive will be available "later this calendar quarter". The new one will certainly not be cheap in view of the enormous SSD capacity, but one can - as always - hope for the further falling SSD prices.
Another new SanDisk introduction is the new
Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C USB drive. It comes in USB stick format with a capacity of 1TB and offers two different interfaces (USB-C and USB-A) at its ends. Per USB 3.1 Gen 1 the transfer speed is up to 150 MB/s. The price is not yet known - but it will be delivered this quarter.
