Seagate started mass production of its first hard drive series with HAMR technology in December after long delays, enabling a record capacity of up to 32 TB. However, these were initially delivered to selected major customers such as data centers. Now, the first models with 30 and 28 TB storage volume are finally available to private customers as well. ;) Seagate IronWolf Pro 30 TB
For example, the Seagate Exos M with 30 TB is currently available at  from around 590 euros and the Seagate IronWolf Pro with 30 TB from 623 euros, with 28 TB for around 603 euros. Interestingly, the Exos M with 28 TB is offered significantly more expensive than the 2 TB larger model: It costs from 793 euros. The new hard drives use the heat-assisted magnetic recording HAMR technology (Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording), in which areas to be written are briefly heated by a laser in order to reduce the field strength at this point and to be able to write a bit precisely. Segate&s HAMR-based Mozaic 3+ technology allowed a data density of 3+ TB per disk (platter) for the Exos M with 30 TB, but this has now grown to 4 TB/disk thanks to Mozaic 4+ and is expected to increase to 5 TB via Mozaic 5+, which would correspond to a capacity of 50 TB if 10 disks per hard drive continue to be used. ;) HAMR Seagate is currently also producing already 40 TB HAMR hard drives, but these are not yet available for normal end customers. If the tests by the selected major customers with the now delivered models are successful, mass production is scheduled to start in the first half of next year. 44 TB models are planned for 2027, and 50 TB hard drives for 2028.
