With the LUMIX S 50mm F1.8 (S-S50E) Panasonic now presents -
as already announced in November 2020- another lens of an upcoming series of full-frame primes for the L-mount. It is the second of a total of four F1.8 aperture lenses (24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm).
All four F1.8 lenses will share a common size and position of controls typically found on cine lenses. This means that changing lenses on a gimbal, for example, does not force a readjustment of the entire camera setup. Thanks to the same lens diameter, filters can also be used together.
With its compact length (approx. 8.2 cm) and light weight (approx. 300g), the LUMIX S 50mm F1.8 is much easier to handle than most typical L-mount lenses. Like all models in this series, the 50mm F1.8 features a dust and splash resistant design that can be used in adverse conditions as low as -10° C.
The filter diameter is 67mm and its 9-blade circular aperture is said to provide an attractive bokeh effect with smooth sharpness-blur transitions as well as round imaging of point light sources with low vignetting.
The LUMIX S 50mm F1.8 is expected to be available in stores in one month's time (end of June 2021) and will cost €469. The recommended retail price is €469. Panasonic has not yet communicated when the last two family members will be released.
