Sennheiser is giving its compact 2.4 GHz wireless microphone system Profile Wireless (released in October last year) a welcome upgrade: a free firmware update gives it the ability to record in 32-bit float. Sennheiser is also launching a cheaper 1-channel version of the Profile Wireless specifically for solo creators who don&t need the two wireless microphones (e.g. for interviews) of the original two-channel version. ![]() Sennheiser Profile Wireless 1-channel
Sennheiser Profile Wireless 1-channelThe Sennheiser Profile Wireless 1-channel microphone system is easy and flexible to use and connects to mobile phones, cameras or computers. For audio recording, it can be used as a clip-on microphone, handheld microphone or table microphone. Using adapters, the receiver connects to the desired recording device and allows the sound to be monitored via its own headphone output. If a mobile phone is used to record videos, the receiver of the Profile Wireless is connected to the Lightning or Mini-USB adapter. The microphones of the system connect automatically to the receiver and are simply clipped to clothing or attached with magnetic fasteners. Thanks to a screwable 3.5 mm jack socket (TRS), other lavalier microphones can also be used with the Profile Wireless as an option. ![]() Sennheiser Profile Wireless 1-channel Conveniently, in contrast to other 2.4 GHz wireless systems, the Sennheiser Profile Wireless can be set up completely on the receiver or transmitter - without the need for an app. The supplied clip-on microphones have 16 GB of memory for up to 30 hours of backup recording. If the Backup Recording Mode is activated, the internal recording is automatically switched on as soon as the radio signal becomes too weak. In Safety Channel Mode, a backup file with a lower volume is recorded to protect against clipping. To use the Profile Wireless as a wireless, handheld reporter microphone, simply plug a clip-on microphone into the multi-function charging case and attach a foam windshield. Using threaded mounts for common content creation accessories such as table stands, it can also be used as a table microphone. A range of up to 245m is supported with a clear line of sight or up to 150m with a clear line of sight taking into account body blockages. ![]() Sennheiser Profile Wireless 1-channel As the Profile Wireless 1-channel fortunately uses the same two-channel receiver as the existing two-channel version of the Profile Wireless, the microphone system can also be upgraded to 2 channels at a later date by purchasing an additional wireless microphone. The Profile Wireless 1-channel microphone is available now for 199 euros, the two-channel version costs 299 euros. The Profile Wireless 1-channel comes in a robust bag containing the clip-on microphone with mini windshield and magnetic mount, a two-channel receiver, two USB cables, USB-C and Lightning adapters, a camera cable and an accessory shoe adapter. ![]() Sennheiser Profile Wireless 1-channel 32-Bit-Float UpgradeThe new firmware gives the Profile Wireless the ability to record in 32-bit float. To do this, the Profile Wireless combines the audio signals from the two A/D converters in the microphone to create a single 32-bit float audio stream. This makes it possible to record audio with an extremely high dynamic range and correct overdriven recordings. As this type of recording requires more storage space, users can also deactivate the 32-bit float functionality and instead switch on the Safety Channel Mode and continue recording with 24-bit. In Safety Channel Mode, a -6dB backup of the audio signal is recorded in addition to the original recording, which avoids clipping.
